Something’s a little different here…
You might be getting a weird Twilight Zone feeling as you browse around my site today. Everything’s still here, but… something’s a little different.
You’re right! I migrated the entire site to WordPress last night in anticipation of some future changes. Luckily, I was able to find the WordPress theme equivalent of the Dreamweaver theme I’d already been using, so the look and feel of the site is almost identical.
The primary change that’s really visible is the way my updates will appear. Rather than being a really long list that stretches this main page out to eternity, they’ll be blog posts. Not that I plan on using this as a true blog, per se (although I can’t promise it’ll never happen) – mostly, you’ll just see my same old show and gig updates here, but in blog format instead.
What does this mean? For me, it means I can add new updates about things I’m working on a lot easier. I used to have to go in and re-do an entire page of HTML every time I wanted to add something. Now I can just add a new post.
It also means that I can leave updates on here forever, rather than deleting older ones to make way for new ones. The posts will be searchable, and technically WordPress even gives me the options to invite comments on each one (although I’ve got that feature turned off for now).
I also intend to add all my old updates back in, but it’ll take a while to do so. I’ll have to go back through my archives of every show and project I’ve worked on for the past four years and write a quick blurb about each, and backdate them all so they appear as blog posts that look as though they were written at the time they happened.
Moving forward, however, I think there will be a lot more activity now since it’s going to be so much easier to maintain.
Although there is a big site overhaul coming down the road…
